Abstract

On 31 March 2023, three months after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, Law 6/2022, of 27 December, on climate change and energy transition in the Canary Islands, came into force, in response to the declaration of the climate emergency situation in the autonomous region by the unanimous vote of the Parliament of the Canary Islands in its session of 20 January 2020. The text implies, among other things, taking on real and binding political commitments, much more ambitious than the current ones, generating a set of obligations and duties for climate action that commit, among others, the local administrations of the Canary Islands. The aim of this paper is to set out in detail the new responsibilities that must be met by what is known as the administration closest to the citizens.
